The buildings are part of the Urban ecological area Svartlamoen in Trondheim. The task was to create low- cost rental housing for (young people). There was a strong focus on the use of materials for the building with a special focus on innovative use of wood. The average number of m2 for residential purposes are in Norway above 50m2 per person. The strategy for the building was to reduce this number to 20m2. This strategy affects both the rental prize and energy consumption per person in the building. Architectural strategies for compensating dense living included good floor to ceiling heights and good daylight conditions. The houses consist of private rooms and a shared communal space with circulation, kitchen and living rooms.
